The church of Sardis thought they were alive, but Jesus says they are dead. It sounds like an arrogant church. It sounds like a church that is wrapped up in works and ministry but neglect faith and love. It sounds like a church full of hypocrisy or one that just doesn’t understand the gospel. We as a church need to practice serving others, but it is not about making a name for ourselves, but giving God the glory and pointing others to Christ. We need to allow the Holy Spirit to guide us and to live according to what God’s word says.

Jesus’ ministry did not stop at the cross. In many ways it had just begun. Christ said, “It is finished.” Dying on the cross accomplished God’s goal. But part of the victory is conquering death so that we may be raised into eternal life. Without the resurrection, He was just another prophet. But Jesus is more than that; He is our God, our Savior, our Lord. He also had to prepare His disciples for their ministry. And He revealed Himself to many. I Thirst
How often Jesus used the analogy of water to get His point across. He calmed the sea. He walked on water. He turned water into wine. He offered living water to those who believe by paying for our sins on the cross. As Jesus was on the cross, He shows His humanness here. He was thirsty. He could have used His power in the same way. But He didn’t. He chose to fulfill His purpose on earth by paying for our sins through His blood. He chose to offer each of us living water. Continue reading “I Thirst”
