Of all the things that was on Jesus’ mind as He was suffering on the cross, He wanted to make sure His mother was taken care of. This was the woman who raised Jesus as a child. This was the woman who was obedient to God and made great sacrifice. She followed Him to the end.
One role the church often seems to neglect is discipling its members. When a person makes a decision to believe in Jesus Christ, we need to be there for them and guide them to grow and learn about their faith. A new believer should also seek godly counsel with those who are more mature believers. We all need to learn and to teach. As a church family, we need to grow together with our brothers and sisters. The key to following Jesus is love. Christ loved us so much He died for us and paid the penalty for our sins. While on this earth, He set an example for us; showing compassion, loving all, particularly the “unlovable”…in the world’s eyes, not His. We are to follow His example.
