Jesus fulfills Old Testament Prophecy

Christ died for our transgressions
He is not here…He is risen!

Today I would like to take another detour, though Jesus is a promise of God.  With Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday coming up, I wanted to share a little of who Jesus is, why He did what He did, and that God had prophesied these things hundreds of years earlier.  This is just one of many in the scriptures, but there is a lot  in this scripture from Isaiah of the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ, Son of God, God Incarnate, our Lord, our Savior.  I broke this scripture from Isaiah up with New testament scriptures that pertain to the prophesy and its fulfillment. Love and Forgiveness

God is a loving and forgiving God.  He is also just and sin is detrimental to any relationship with him.  Sin cannot be in His presence.  But, He wants to have a relationship with us and He loves us so much that He provided a way to atone for our sins.  As the Israelites, His chosen people, were delivered from the bondage of the Egyptians, a system was created to appease God of sin.  That is a long story for another time, but basically, a blood offering was needed,  a sacrifice for the sins of the people.  But, because of the sins of the people, including the priests, this was needed over and over, every year.  Read through Hebrews to learn more about this.  So, God the Father, sent His only Son, Jesus, who had no sin, to be that blood sacrifice to redeem all who believe.  Jesus Christ came to this earth, becoming fully man and fully God, giving freely His life, taking the sins of the world on His shoulders, being nailed to a cross and being raised from the dead on the third day.  He showed true love, unconditional love.  Because of what Christ did, we can be forgiven.

Jesus in Psalm 22

I was going through a study in Hebrews and the teacher described the quote in Hebrews 2 from Psalm 22.  I thought it was interesting how the first half of the Psalm depicts Jesus thoughts on the cross; the second half were His thoughts and the results of the cross after His resurrection.  Our salvation is dependent on both His death and resurrection.  It is through His death our sins are washed away; it is through His resurrection that death and sin are conquered and those of us who trust in the Lord will be forgiven and will live in eternity with Him. Why Did Jesus Come?

Most of us know the story of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  We know that He died for our sins.  How?  Why did He have to die for our sins?  That could be a complete study in itself.  All have sinned.  All of us are guilty.  God is just and there is a payment that is needed to cleanse us of our sins.  We must be “clean” to be in His presence.  So God, in His justice and His love, provided a way to pay the penalty.  He provided a sacrifice.  The sacrifice must be pure, must be clean, without blemish.  Only in His Son, is this possible.  He loved us so much that He provided His Son to pay that penalty.  Jesus took the sins of all the world, placed them on His shoulders and gave His life on the cross.  That is what Good Friday is all about. Carry Your Own Cross

It is such an awesome thing when someone decides to believe in Jesus Christ.  Believing in Jesus Christ is different than just believing that He is real and that He is the Son of God.  It takes surrender.  It takes following Him and obeying His commands.  Those of us who confess that we are believers in Christ, do we do these things?  Let us surrender to Jesus and remember that our old self is dead and hung on the cross with Jesus (see my post, Christ in Me).  We are a new creation in Christ Jesus (see my post, God’s Grace Frees Us from Sin ).  I thank God that He did this for me and changed my life!  He did it for you, too.  I hope that you take this opportunity to surrender to Him and be free.  Free from your sin, free from your past.
