Jesus taught using many parables or other analogies to get His point across. In this study series we will look at some of them. The first is a discussion with Nicodemus one night where Jesus teaches Him about true salvation, not through a parable, but He uses several analogies. This may be one of the most important and most well known scripture in the Bible.

You Will Be With Me in Paradise
It is not too late to be forgiven. The thief on the cross asked Jesus for forgiveness hours before his death and He granted it. He realized his sin, confessed it before God, and repented. He knew there was nothing he could do to earn it. Only by trusting in Jesus. And that is what he did. Jesus offers everyone a chance. We are all like these thieves. We are all guilty. The question is which thief do you want to be?
Words on the Cross
The cross. The crucifixion. Jesus. His love. His sacrifice. His humility. God’s Will. Salvation for all. Jesus went through a horrible death for you and me. He suffered. He was beaten. He was tortured. He was betrayed. He was forsaken. He wasn’t killed; He gave His life. It was God’s plan. This would redeem us. It would save us from our sins. We would be declared righteous by His blood, by His sacrifice, by His love and forgiveness. Because of this, we can have eternal life if we believe and trust in Him.
Every event and every word that He spoke on this dark day would have significance. It would teach us something. It would reveal something about Him. The gospels record seven phrases that Jesus spoke on the cross. For the next few posts we will discuss the words and events during the Crucifixion. Grace Abuse
Don’t be a slave to sin, but be free by grace
Previously we talked about God’s grace and the promise that through God’s grace we are saved by faith not by the things we do. It is what Christ did for us, taking our sins and paying for them by nailing them to the cross. So does that mean if we accept God’s grace and trust in Jesus that we could do whatever we want? I would say yes and no. Yes, we are free. But, we are free from sin and if you have truly accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior, you are changed. You are a new creation. Your old self has died and you now live for Him. Your desire should be aligned with God. You no longer want to do the sinful acts of your previous self. The Holy Spirit will live in you and will guide you. Now you can live by the Spirit and not by your flesh. If you do not see these changes, if your desires remain the same, you have to question the sincerity of your acceptance of God’s grace. You need to be reconciled to Him. It does not mean that you will never sin or your flesh will never creep in and tempt you. It will. There will be a battle. But remember that you are victorious because of the blood of Christ. Easter is not about bunnies and eggs
Easter time…I call it Resurrection Sunday. It is not about bunnies and eggs. That is derived from pagan rituals. I am not sure why some churches include these things during this time of year, like egg hunts. Maybe I’m a scrooge, but I want to remember this day as a day of celebration of the sacrifice that Jesus made dying on the cross, taking the sins of the world with Him and putting them to death, being raised on the third day, and lives today to intercede for us.
