This is the season of hope. What are you hoping for? A nice gift? Quality time with the family? The greatest gift was given to us some 2000 years ago. The gift of hope. The gift of salvation. The gift of grace. God gave each of us the opportunity to accept that gift. That is hope. It’s not just a wish. It’s confidence, trust, expectation. As believers, we have that confident expectation that one day we will be in heaven with Christ. Not because of anything we have done, but because God loved us so much He sent His only Son to pay for our sins, to die on the cross, and to be raised from the dead, giving us victory over sin and death. It’s not just looking forward to it; it’s already been done.

Happy Belated Birthday, Jesus!
It’s that time of year when we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Regardless of whether this is truly the date when Jesus was born (and in all likelihood it is not), the important thing is that the Son of God came into this world, born to a virgin, and died on the cross for our sins, and any and all who believe, and trust that we are saved by His death and resurrection, are saved and will have eternal life with Him. Who we are in Christ. That is a question many of us ask ourselves and if we remember this, we would not have the fear, doubt, shame, anxiety or lack of confidence that we often do. We would be encouraged knowing that we are His children, and we would have boldness to share with others so that they can have what we have. God gave us a gift, not only in the life to come but in the life we have now.

In the last post we discussed Jesus’ life and death as prophesied in the Old Testament and fulfilled in the New Testament. In this post we will look at Jesus’ birth. As God promised, His Son, who all things were created through Him as it says in Colossians and in John, would come into this world, born as a Child to save the world from sin. He did this by living a perfect sinless life, taking on the sins of the world and giving His life for us through His death on the cross. He would grow up to do mighty things, but it started in Bethlehem, in a manger.

People say many things to say about Jesus Christ. There is much to say about Him. God the Father has much to say about Him. Those who saw Him had much to say about Him. Many say He was a prophet. Many say He was a good teacher. Many say He was crazy. Many rejected Him. Few say He did not exist; there were too many witnesses and too much written about Him. But we all have to decide who we think He is. I know with all my heart that He is God the Son, sent to this earth by God the Father to pay for our sins. Jesus Christ is our Salvation.
