Just about everyone knows the story of Jonah and how God called Him to preach a message to Ninevah. The people were practicing evil deeds, but after God’s message they repented from their ways and God spared them. This time He speaks through Nahum. Again the message is clear that evil reigns in the land and they were being wicked to the people of Israel and Judah. Assyria, of which Ninevah was the capitol, had conquered Israel and treated them harshly. But this time they did not repent. In my our previous post, we discussed how God helps us to mature as a believer. Today we will look at what the scripture says what our part is. We don’t just sit back and watch God work. He wants us to do something. As a believer the Spirit indwells in us and guides us to live in a way that honors God and in so doing, our faith will grow and so will our character. What are ways we can live that reflect we are a child of God? How are we to live our lives? We have talked about “carrying your cross daily” and reading 1 John to know if we are truly saved. This is one thing 1 John says:
1 John 2:15-17
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world — the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life — is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
John uses the sins that Adam and Eve were seduced by causing The Fall, separating them from God and cursing all of us. Thanks God He sent His one and only Son to take our sins upon His shoulders and nail them to the cross to redeem us from our sins. How blessed we are to have a loving God and savior to do that for us. Continue reading “The 3 sins of this World”
