God’s Promises: Our Inheritance

What a blessing it is to know that we have an inheritance in heaven.  Jesus came to this earth to pay for our sins by dying on the cross.  He conquered death and was raised from the grave.  By His grace we are saved if we believe in Him.  We are assured that God always keeps His promises, and He promised eternal life and as adopted sons and daughters (as mentioned in the previous post), we have an inheritance.

Galatians 3:26-4:7

For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all, but is under guardians and stewards until the time appointed by the father. Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world. But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

Romans 8:15-17

For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs — heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

We are no longer slaves to sin.  We are no longer salves to our flesh or to this world.  We are children of God.  As we grow and learn from the Holy Spirit, one day we will obtain those things which God has for us in heaven.  He has a place for each of us.  He gives us new, incorruptible bodies.  We will become like Christ.  That does not mean we will become gods, but we will be like Him, in character.   We will rule with Him.   There will be no more sin, nor pain, nor tears…more on this in future posts.  Praise God for giving us what we do not deserve.  We are declared righteous through the blood of Jesus, adopting us into His family and allowing us to share the inheritance of His chosen people.

1 Peter 1:3-5

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

Ephesians 1:11-12

In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.

Let us remember the price that He paid, but also the gift He has given us.  We can be encouraged knowing that we are part of the family of God, and one day we will all be together with Him, in the presence of His glory.

I lived in the far corner of Northeastern Washington with my beautiful wife, but now live in Wisconsin while I look for work. God has blessed me tremendously and so thankful for His grace and the people He has put in my life and His work in and around me.
