What Do You Hope For?

This is the season of hope. What are you hoping for? A nice gift? Quality time with the family? The greatest gift was given to us some 2000 years ago. The gift of hope. The gift of salvation. The gift of grace. God gave each of us the opportunity to accept that gift. That is hope. It’s not just a wish. It’s confidence, trust, expectation. As believers, we have that confident expectation that one day we will be in heaven with Christ. Not because of anything we have done, but because God loved us so much He sent His only Son to pay for our sins, to die on the cross, and to be raised from the dead, giving us victory over sin and death. It’s not just looking forward to it; it’s already been done.

The True Reason for Easter

Easter is a great time to celebrate. Many get together with family, share a meal and perhaps have special treats for the kids. But why do we celebrate? It has nothing to do with bunnies and eggs. It is not about fertility as some religions believe. It is about victory over death and sin. It was God’s plan all along for His one and only Son to come to this earth, take the sins of the world and pay for them by giving His life, dying on the cross, and being raised on the third day. So this day is much bigger than many realize. It is the day that we can declare victory over sin and death because Christ did. All we have to do is believe and trust in Him.

From the Heart

God always looks at the heart. Many people look at outward appearance and actions. While we show love to God by obeying Him, many put rules and commandments first. In Jesus’ day, the religious leaders did this so much that they created their own rules and laws and added them to God’s Laws, putting more of a burden on the people and used it for their own gain. It became more about rules and regulations instead of the goodness of one’s heart. Many religions, churches, and even families today seem to make things more about traditions and following rules than about character, relationships, and love.

Lazarus and the Rich Man: Heaven

In the third part of my post about Lazarus and the rich man (Luke 16:19-31), we will discuss heaven; what it might be like and the hope and assurance that those who love God and believe in Jesus Christ will spend eternity with Him there. What a great gift God has offered us, if we only accept it by believing and trusting in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Come to Dinner

Jesus told a few different parables about someone inviting his friends to dinner. One was about those you would expect to go, but they made excuses, so others are invited. One was about a person’s pride who finds the best seats in the house until being humbled. One is about people making light of the wedding and even some being hostile towards those inviting them, and not being prepared for the wedding. So what is Jesus talking about in these three parables? Let’s discuss them.
