What do we call God? Because of His endless character and because He is so indescribable, He has several names. Each name describes an attribute of God. But God the Father and Jesus Christ the Son, were there through creation, and will always be. God is eternal. God is three persons, but one God. A hard concept but they each work together as one triune God. That is for another post (see The Trinity: God in 3 Persons and the posts that go along with that). Daniel calls God “The Ancient of Days.” In Revelation. Jesus reveals Himself in Revelation as The Alpha and Omega. He is the Beginning and the End, the First and The Last. He is the One who was and is and is to come.

God of Salvation: Yeshua
In the Old Testament, God is often referred to as The God of my Salvation. In the New Testament, we learn of God coming in the flesh as Yeshua, in Greek, Ieosous, or as we know His name in English, Jesus, the Savior of the world, the Son of God.

Treasures are great. What treasure do you seek? There is so much excitement when we find a treasure. But there is no treasure on this earth that can compare to that which will be waiting in heaven for those of us who trust in Jesus. Even now, here on this earth, we will receive some reward. Following Jesus does not guarantee an easy life, or riches, or good health, but we will have joy even through hard times. We will have confidence knowing that Christ is always by our side and the glory that awaits us in heaven. Jesus gives a few parables about treasures that we ought to seek.

God always looks at the heart. Many people look at outward appearance and actions. While we show love to God by obeying Him, many put rules and commandments first. In Jesus’ day, the religious leaders did this so much that they created their own rules and laws and added them to God’s Laws, putting more of a burden on the people and used it for their own gain. It became more about rules and regulations instead of the goodness of one’s heart. Many religions, churches, and even families today seem to make things more about traditions and following rules than about character, relationships, and love.

Are you prepared for the day when Christ returns? Let us be prepared for that day. Jesus says to watch and be ready. How do we do this? First, trust in Jesus. Those who follow Him will be saved and have eternal life. Second, live for Him. Our actions should reflect that we are His followers. Third, tell others. Do those around you know that you are a believer? Do they know about the gospel?
