Everlasting God, El Olam

What do we know about our God? He is eternal. He is the Everlasting God. Hebrew scripture calls Him El Olam, or a form of this. He is the Creator of the universe and everything in it He has existed since the beginning of time and will always exist. He is “the One who is, and who was, and who is to come.” He was not created by man, but created man and woman. He is the all-powerful, all knowing, self-existent God. He is indescribable and beyond our imagination No one is like our God.

Names of God: Elohim

Did you know the Bible uses several names for God? In the Hebrew text, God is called different names that are all translated “God” or “LORD.” I do not know Hebrew, but we will learn the different names of God and their meanings together. In the Hebrew culture, names were more than just a way to identify someone. Names described their character, their traits, who they are. So, as we study the names of God, we will learn who God is, and what His character is.

God the Father: Who is He?

As we dive into what the Trinity is all about, we will look at each person of the Trinity, the Godhead. Who is God the Father? If you had a good father here on earth, God the Father is so much more. He created us, and He loves us. He knows what is best and will accomplish it. If your relationship with your earthly father was not great, you know there is a Father in heaven who loves and will never harm you. He is Almighty God who is powerful and strong, but yet gentle and kind. He is just and He is merciful. There is so much to Our Father in Heaven that is beyond our comprehension, that is indescribable. But one thing we do know is He loves us and wants an intimate relationship with us. So, who is God the Father?

Bless the Lord!

This year has been a rough one for us and we are still feeling the effects from it. But through it all, we know that God is good and He is with us, even when we don’t feel Him. We know that God is working in us. We know because He keeps His promises and we have seen His blessings in our lives and others. So often, when times are hard, we don’t see the promises and blessings at the time, but later on in life we look back and are thankful for all the things He has done. Even when we are going through struggles, we need to be reminded of all His goodness and the blessings we already have. Therefore, let us bless the Lord, be thankful of Him, and praise His name as we see throughout the scriptures.

Praise Prayers

In our last discussion we talked about how Paul encouraged others in his prayer for them.  He also never ceased to give God praise for all that He has done.  This is something we all should remember in our prayers.  As we talk to God, we should acknowledge how great a God He is, how good He is to us and all the things He has done for us.  There are so many scriptures to choose from that have prayers of praise, particularly from the Psalms, but also many in both the Old and New Testaments.  Many scriptures acknowledge God’s greatness and may not actually be part of a prayer, but I think by reading these and perhaps using some of them in our prayer will honor God.  As the authors do, let us not only acknowledge Him in our prayers but share it with all those around us.
