God is good. He is righteous. Bible talks about His righteousness and how our aim should be more like him. To be righteous in His sight. But, we all fall short. He does not. However, Jesus made that sacrifice on the cross so that we can be declared righteous. Thank God for that. This is why He was called Yahweh Tsidkenu or a variation of this in Hebrew, which is “God Our Righteousness.”

Everlasting God, El Olam
What do we know about our God? He is eternal. He is the Everlasting God. Hebrew scripture calls Him El Olam, or a form of this. He is the Creator of the universe and everything in it He has existed since the beginning of time and will always exist. He is “the One who is, and who was, and who is to come.” He was not created by man, but created man and woman. He is the all-powerful, all knowing, self-existent God. He is indescribable and beyond our imagination No one is like our God.

Did you know the Bible uses several names for God? In the Hebrew text, God is called different names that are all translated “God” or “LORD.” I do not know Hebrew, but we will learn the different names of God and their meanings together. In the Hebrew culture, names were more than just a way to identify someone. Names described their character, their traits, who they are. Creation vs. Evolution. Young Earth vs. old Earth. Big Bang vs. Devine Design. As a scientist (I have degrees in geology, anthropology and environmental science), I have often struggled (and still do at times) with some of these conflicts, but science often teaches us about God. Many things we learn in science are corroborated in the Bible. Also, we need to be careful with accepting theories as fact, as they often teach in our schools. But to me, there is no doubt that God is real and that He created all things. I have seen things happen in my life that can only be attributed to God. I loved the quote from a study by Charlie Dates that I borrowed for the title. In the beginning, God. As he says, these first four words of the Bible are so important. Everything is about God, since He created all things, including you and me.

This year has been a rough one for us and we are still feeling the effects from it. But through it all, we know that God is good and He is with us, even when we don’t feel Him. We know that God is working in us. We know because He keeps His promises and we have seen His blessings in our lives and others. So often, when times are hard, we don’t see the promises and blessings at the time, but later on in life we look back and are thankful for all the things He has done. Even when we are going through struggles, we need to be reminded of all His goodness and the blessings we already have. Therefore, let us bless the Lord, be thankful of Him, and praise His name as we see throughout the scriptures.
