Jesus’ Life and Death in the Old and New Testaments

Jesus is the most talked about person in the history of the world. Why is that? Why so much controversy? Many people love Him, and many people hate Him? Why? When He came to this world, he showed nothing but love and kindness. Why do people doubt Him? He has been written about not only in the Bible, but in historical writings as well. It is hard to dispute He existed, though many do. Many doubt that He is who He says He is. But He was written about throughout the Old Testament and many prophesies pointed to Him.

Bless the Lord!

This year has been a rough one for us and we are still feeling the effects from it. But through it all, we know that God is good and He is with us, even when we don’t feel Him. We know that God is working in us. We know because He keeps His promises and we have seen His blessings in our lives and others. So often, when times are hard, we don’t see the promises and blessings at the time, but later on in life we look back and are thankful for all the things He has done. Even when we are going through struggles, we need to be reminded of all His goodness and the blessings we already have. Therefore, let us bless the Lord, be thankful of Him, and praise His name as we see throughout the scriptures.

Being a Good Samaritan

One of the most popular parables in the Bible is the Good Samaritan. What is Jesus trying to teach us? What does it mean to love your neighbor? Who is your neighbor? As Jesus often does, He takes it a step farther. This is not about salvation. Doing good deeds to your fellow man or woman does not save you. But it is the right thing to do. Worship with Psalms

As you spend time with God and as you worship Him, it is good to look through the Psalms and remember what a great God He is. Take time each day to pray and read some of these (maybe even out loud) to give God praise as your act of worship. As we discussed in the previous post, this is not the only way to worship God. Also as we discussed, worship is more than singing in church. It is your daily devotion to Him. Let us start each day with an attitude of worship to the God who loves us beyond measure and has given us so much to be thankful for.

I Can Do All Things…

Most people know Philippians 4:13.  But do we understand what it means?  Out of context, its meaning can be much different from what it was intended.  Just like any scripture, read at least the entire chapter.  Who is the author speaking to?  What is the theme and setting of the book?  Thanksgiving has just past.  It is a time of giving thanks for all that we have.  We should be grateful in good times and bad, because God has blessed us in so many ways, sometimes we don’t even realize it until later in life.  So, what does Thanksgiving have to do with what Paul was talking about in his letter to the Philippians, anyway?
