Are you watching? Do you know what to watch for? What are we looking for? Why should we watch? There will be a day when God will judge the earth. Sounds scary, doesn’t it? There will be seven years of tribulation that will be really bad here on earth. Not the most encouraging news we could hear. But, there will also be a day when God makes all things new. When Jesus returns and takes us home. When there will be no more tears, or sorrow or pain, no more disease or death. No more evil. For those of us who trust in Jesus and are children of God, it will be a glorious, wonderful occasion when we will be in His presence. That is why we watch. With anticipation. Not with fear, but excitement!
2 Timothy 4:8
Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.
Revelation 22:12-14
“And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”
Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.
We can look forward to this day. We also hope that all those around us would choose Jesus and be able to have the same experience as us. Jesus came and died on the cross so that we can be with Him for all of eternity. It is God’s desire that none would perish but that all would have eternal life. Trust in Jesus; believe in Him, the one and only Son of God. Let us share this truth with others until that time. Let us be prepared for it and watch for the signs.
Luke 21:25-28
“And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”
Jesus gives a warning that these things will come upon the world suddenly, when many are not expecting it. Even when we see many of the signs in Matthew 24, we will not know exactly when that time is. No one will. Anyone who says they know or claims to be Him, do not do not believe it.
Matthew 24:36-44
“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
As the hour draws near, let us live for Him. Let us not be caught off guard. Let us seek God’s will.
Luke 21:34-36
“But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”
Jesus says that many will not be ready and may even scoff at His coming or those who try to warn them. People will mock and laugh or just not care and want to go about their lives, living for themselves. God wants to save everyone. He will give every opportunity to do so. But time will run out. But those of us who are in Christ Jesus will look forward to that day, when Christ comes to this earth, when we will be brought up to heaven, when we will see His glory and will be transformed. It will be a joyous occasion for God’s children.
Revelation 21:1-5
Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”
Times are hard right now. They could get worse. They could get better. But, there will be a time when we all need to make a decision. I pray that it is soon that each one will desire to seek God and trust in Jesus. May you be blessed and look forward to that great day when we will be in His presence.
