Jesus the Greatest Gift

Merry Christmas, everyone!  May your hearts and homes be filled and I hope that all of you will have a wonderful time with friends and family this Christmas season!  I love the time of opening gifts and seeing joy of others when they receive a gift that they will enjoy.  But the greatest gift of all and the greatest blessing is knowing Jesus Christ.  Not just knowing who He is, but really knowing Him, having an intimate relationship, a saving relationship with Jesus.  It gives me such great joy to see someone make that decision to trust in Jesus.  It is overwhelming joy!

That is what Christmas is all about.  We celebrate the birth of Jesus (though it may have actually been some time in the fall, not December 25) on this day, not for the opening of presents or gathering of families or the feast or any of that, though that is all great, too, but that Jesus came to this earth to save us from our sins, from eternal damnation, to give us eternal life! Jesus is the Light, We are the light

As Christmas approaches, let us remember the true meaning of it. Although family and presents and lights and decorations and songs and laughter are great, let us step back and consider that God sent His Son to us to save us.  Let us remember this throughout the year and trust Him in all things.  Let us abide In the light of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Don’t Be a “Pew-sitter”

As we go through our series on “I am Saved…Now what to do?”, we will discuss the importance of being involved in your local church.  Probably one of the first things to do after you accept Jesus Christ as Lord of your life is to find a good church, one that teaches the Bible with no compromise, one that disciples new believers, one who has a community of believers to help each other grow and encourage one another, one who is a praying church.  Check out their mission statement, tenets of faith and what they offer.  I am a strong believer in small groups.  This is where people really get to know each other as they study God’s word.  I also am a strong believer that everyone has a ministry that God has appointed them to do.  We all need to be an active member of our church, participating in Bible studies, small groups, Sunday school, and ministries.  Seek what the Lord has called you to do.  Help where help is needed.  That is a good way to discover your gifts and your calling.  Don’t wait for it to come to you…but also know when to say no.  God will lead you.  Too many people come to Sunday services and think that is enough.  I call them “pew-sitters.”  Getting fed through the music and sermons is great, but there is more to it than that.  How do you help to “feed” others?  I believe this is what God meant when He says, “I know the plans that I have for you…to give you a future and a hope.”  (See Jeremiah 29:11) Continue reading “Don’t Be a “Pew-sitter””

Shine Your Light

Next in our series on what we should do once we are saved is to share that good news with others.  We need to be a testimony for Jesus Christ, live in a way that people know we are children of God and invite others to have that gift that we received.

  • Share what the Lord has done for you to those around you.  This is an act of love, to tell the truth so that others can know God.  Be baptized.  It does not save you, but it is an outward testimony of your faith in Jesus Christ.

Love One Another

The key to following Jesus is love.  Christ loved us so much He died for us and paid the penalty for our sins.  While on this earth, He set an example for us; showing compassion, loving all, particularly the “unlovable”…in the world’s eyes, not His. We are to follow His example.  The greatest commandments are to love God and love others. Continue reading “Love One Another”
