God’s Promises: Comfort and Strength

In our weakness, God gives us strength.  When we struggle, He comforts us.  We will go through hardship; we will have times of weakness.  He doesn’t keep us from those times, He helps us to get through them.  He is always there for us, even when we don’t realize it.  The Spirit will guide us and strengthen us and pray for us.

Isaiah 40:29-31

He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.

Having been saved, we have the Spirit who gives us strength.  His power is within us.  The Spirit is praying for us.  When we feel weak, we can turn to Him.  Trust God and He will get you through whatever you are going through and once you are through it, you will be stronger.

Romans 8:26-29

Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

God works through us in our weaknesses and hardships.  His power is revealed in us through those times.  Great things have been accomplished by people who have faith even in the most difficult situations.  There are so many examples in the Bible that can encourage us and give us confidence so that we can face our giants.

Hebrews 11:32-35

And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also of David and Samuel and the prophets: who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Women received their dead raised to life again.

Hebrews 12:1-4

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

crown of thorns on BibleFor consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.

Often we want God to remove us from difficulties or ease the pain.  Sometimes He will, sometimes He walks us through it.  Often times we look back and realize that there was a purpose for it, or it is simply to build our character or something that we can use to help others who may be struggling.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10

And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

2 Corinthians 1:3-5

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

Regardless of our circumstances, in good times and in bad, we can be encouraged that our Father in heaven cares for us and is watching over us.  he gives us grace and he provides our every need.  I am so thankful for all the things He has got me through.  I did not understand at the time, and I often asked, “why is this happening to me?” or “what did I do to deserve this?”  With God’s grace, I did nothing to deserve that.  I am grateful that I did not get what I deserved.  Jesus paid the price for my sins and He got what we deserved so that we can be forgiven.  That alone should give us comfort and encouragement.

I lived in the far corner of Northeastern Washington with my beautiful wife, but now live in Wisconsin while I look for work. God has blessed me tremendously and so thankful for His grace and the people He has put in my life and His work in and around me.
