The True Rock

How would you describe someone who is strong and powerful? Someone who is immovable? Where would people go to be protected by enemies or disaster? Castles are often built on a rock. David went into the rocks to hide from Saul. He also used a rock to kill a giant. But the true rock is God. He was the one that was with David when he faced Goliath. He was the one that was with him when he was being pursued by King Saul. With God we do not need to fear. We can rely on His strength and power. We know He never changes. His words are true. He keeps His promises. He will lead us and protect us from the evil one. He will strengthen us through our struggles. He is the firm foundation to build our life on.

God Sets Us Apart

Our God is Yahweh M’Kaddesh, The Lord Who Sanctifies. As He chose Israel as His people, He chooses us who believe. Not by our works, not by what we do, but because He loves us and sent His Son to pay for our sins. He gave us the Holy Spirit to guide us as we become more mature men and women of faith. Through Jesus’ death on the cross, we have been declared righteous. We have been made holy. We have been set apart. And as we continue to follow Him, He will purify us, making us more and more like Christ.

A Rock Solid Foundation

Jesus knew a thing or two about building. One thing he knew was that you need a firm foundation, and what it stands on. Our faith is no different. Working in God’s Vineyard

Many are called to do God’s work. It might be something seemingly insignificant that may be behind the scenes or a small task or it might be something that will impact many others. Whatever work you do, do it as unto the Lord (because you are!) and do it wholeheartedly. If you are called to lead, be the shepherd God has called you to be and follow what the Holy Spirit tells you. Listen to godly advice. And leave pride out of it. And do not compare yourself to others. Again, let God be your guide. Let us remember that God is in control, not us. The leaders of Israel did not see it that way. When God sent someone to give a message, they would not listen. Pride got in their way. They wanted the power and prestige and didn’t want anyone to take that from them. Jesus told a couple parables that deals with the heart of those who are called to do God’s work.

Our Cornerstone

In the last post we talked about the foundation of the church.  Christ is and always will be that foundation.  If a church does not center on Christ, if it does not teach scripture, it is a false church.  Jesus should be the center of the church and the center of our lives.  Our strength is in Him.  Our salvation is through Him.
