What Do You Hope For?

This is the season of hope. What are you hoping for? A nice gift? Quality time with the family? The greatest gift was given to us some 2000 years ago. The gift of hope. The gift of salvation. The gift of grace. God gave each of us the opportunity to accept that gift. That is hope. It’s not just a wish. It’s confidence, trust, expectation. As believers, we have that confident expectation that one day we will be in heaven with Christ. Not because of anything we have done, but because God loved us so much He sent His only Son to pay for our sins, to die on the cross, and to be raised from the dead, giving us victory over sin and death. It’s not just looking forward to it; it’s already been done.

Who Am I?

Who we are in Christ. That is a question many of us ask ourselves and if we remember this, we would not have the fear, doubt, shame, anxiety or lack of confidence that we often do. We would have the fruit of the Spirit…love, joy, peace…we would remember the hope that is in us. We would be encouraged knowing that we are His children, and we would have boldness to share with others so that they can have what we have. God gave us a gift, not only in the life to come but in the life we have now.

Carrying Your Cross

In a previous post, we talked about denying ourselves and carrying our cross daily (see Carry Your Own Cross) as Jesus spoke of in Luke 9:23-26. Here we will discuss this in a little more detail. How do we show others that we are followers of Christ? What does it mean to carry your own cross?

Confidence in Eternal Life

I was having a conversation the other day about someone we knew who had cancer.  I mentioned that this person said that they were ready and knew where they were going.  The reply was that we never know until the time comes.  I was taken aback by that knowing what both of us were taught.  I wish I had spoken up at the time to say what the gospel says about it, so i thought I would write about it here.  I will have to pick it up with him again.  After all, that is one of the most important questions to ask yourself.  Do you know where you are going after this life?  The Bible says, “yes!” Continue reading “Confidence in Eternal Life”

God’s Promise: You Will Overcome

This week started out with some struggles at work.  I was frustrated and angry.  Someone said some things that really upset me.  It was early in the day, so it put me in a bad mood for awhile and I was flustered.  So, I prayed.  I prayed to clear my head and to not allow this affect my thoughts, my mood or how I treated others.  I prayed that I would have wisdom and that I would do my job well and that I would be a light to those around me.  I think to the most part, I was able to do that.  The Bible says, “be angry and do not sin,” or another version is something like “do not sin in your anger.”  I think I did pretty well, but the person I was most angry at was gone by the time I got back from underground (I am a geologist in an underground mine, so I was away from most of the people in the office).  As I was thinking about that this morning, I was thinking of one of God’s promises, that He is always with me and He will help me to overcome whatever situation I may be in.  As a child of God, I have this confidence.
