Jesus is the Light. He came to this earth as a light in a world of darkness. Our world is getting darker and Satan is at work trying to subdue the light while he still has time. But, the good news is Jesus is coming and his light cannot be subdued! Until then, we must be the light, reflecting the light of Jesus in the world around us.
John 8:12
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
John 12:46
“I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.”
I believe the light of Jesus is a few things. It is righteousness coming into this world to overcome evil. It is the glory of God shining on His people. It is life. Just as the sun shines and gives life to the earth, so Jesus shines His light to give life to us forever. It is salvation and redemption to all who believe.
John 1:1-5
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
John 1:14
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
The light is not only for salvation, but to reveal sin. It is to show us where we fall short of God’s glory. It is to show us that there is a need for salvation and a Savior. And that Savior is The Light, Jesus Christ. We can be saved from the darkness by the light. He has overcome the darkness.
John 3:18-21
“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”
Ephesians 5:8-14
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. Therefore He says: “Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.”
As we go into the light, when we accept Christ as Lord and Savior, He will transform us. I am so grateful for the change He mad in me. I was heading toward destruction, the path I chose would have ruined my life, but God saved me and changed me. Now, as “children of light,” we strive to be more like Him to do His will, for His glory, live fruitful and righteous lives, knowing that we have hope in Him.
1 John 1:5-7
This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
Our hope is secure. One day we will be present with the Lord; we will receive His rewards. We will be in heaven and have new “incorruptible” bodies. We will always be surrounded by light because Jesus is the light.
Revelation 21:23-27
The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it. Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (there shall be no night there). And they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it. But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
We can be thankful for The Lamb of God, The Light of the World, the sacrifice that he made for our sins so that we may be free. Let us shine our light to all those around us; let them see the joy that is in us because of Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 60:1-3
Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the LORD will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising.
