In following with the previous post, do we have enough love in us to share the gospel so that others know about the saving grace of Jesus Christ? Of who He is? Are we worried about what they might think? If we do not share the gospel with others, what does God think about that? Sometimes I am ashamed for not having the boldness to be a witness to those around me…family, coworkers, friends, people at the store, etc…etc… Often my actions are fair, but do others know that I am a child of God? If not, shame on me!
Ezekiel 3:18-21
When I say to the wicked, ‘you shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand. Yet, if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul. Again, when a righteous man turns from his righteousness and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die; because you did not give him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; but his blood I will require at your hand. Nevertheless, if you warn the righteous man that the righteous should not sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live because he took warning; also you will have delivered your soul.
This is quite a harsh warning God gave to Ezekiel. God tells him he is like a watchmen in a guard tower, who is to warn people when danger approaches. God sent His Son to die on the cross for us to be saved and only through the blood of Jesus are we saved. But once we are saved, God had a plan for each of us…to share our faith. I often think of how much time in my life I wasted on my own interests instead of sharing what the Lord has done for me and the grace that He offers to all. Let us not wait hoping that God will send someone else to present the gospel. What do the scriptures say? What is the gospel?
Romans 10:8-15
But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame. For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”
How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written:
“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace,
Who bring glad tidings of good things!”
This does not mean they hear from a sermon at church, necessarily. We are all God’s preachers to share the gospel. I believe this simply means to share the truth in love. Tell others that God loves us so much that He sent His One and only Son to die on the cross and take the sins on His shoulders so that we may be saved; so that we may spend eternity in heaven in His presence. That we do not have to do a bunch of things to be saved, but that we accept His grace, His gift of salvation, and allow Him to change our life to become a new creation and live for Him. We also need to tell them that Jesus had to come to be a sacrifice because of sin in the world. All of us are sinners and we all need salvation.
God has given us all different gifts. We should use what God has given us to further His kingdom. In Matthew 6:33, Jesus says, “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness…”
As a child of God, what are we to do?
1 Peter 3:15-16
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear
2 Timothy 4:1-5
I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
Share the truth in love. Show those who do not know Jesus there is a better way and that way is only through Jesus Christ. Help those who do believe to be stronger in their faith. Pray for them, guide them, encourage them, learn from each other and hold each other accountable to Christ. Be in the word so you know what the truth is and live it. May God bless you. Pray for me. I will pray for you. Amen.
