What does it mean to be a shepherd? A shepherd leads the flock. He takes care of the flock. He protects the flock and never steers them wrong. He will never let them go astray and if they wander off he will bring them back and rescue them from any bad situation. He is always there for his sheep. I AM’s…The Bread of Life
I thought it would be fun and interesting to go through the “I AM’s” in John that Jesus proclaims. Saying “I AM” was kind of taboo in the Jewish society because they did not want to utter God’s name Yahweh that he proclaims to Moses for the people, which means “I AM.” When Jesus said to the people, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM,” they were angry and offended because they did not believe that He was God (John 8:58). But He is and has shown through the miracles and His death and resurrection. He lives today in each of us that believe and trust in Jesus Christ. The Angel of the Lord and Moses
Jesus appears several times in the Old Testament as “The Angel of the Lord.” In the last post, we learned that He appeared to Abraham, showing us that there will be a substitute for the sacrifice of sins, and He would be that substitute, God’s one and only Son to redeem us. In Exodus, Jesus appears to Moses in the burning bush. He would call Moses to be a “savior” of his people, and to eventually bring the law to show everyone that they fall short and need a savior. Ironically, it would be in the same place that God provides the ten commandments where He first encounters Moses to send him to His Chosen People. Continue reading “The Angel of the Lord and Moses”
