Go…

fishers.jpg

Do you ever wonder what God has planned for your life? What His will for you individually is? What your ministry is? Are you waiting for a call from Him? I think sometimes He just wants you to go. Try something. Get involved and then see if that is where He is leading you. God told Abraham to go but He didn’t tell Him where at first. Jesus told His disciples simply, “Follow Me.” They didn’t know where He was going, they simply followed.

 Genesis 12:1-4a

Now the Lord had said to Abram, ‘Get out of your country, from your family, and from your Father’s house, to a land I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to Him.

Abram (who was later named Abraham) obeyed the Lord and had faith to go wherever He was lead. He didn’t ask where he was going, He just went. Because of His faith, we all are blessed, for through him, Jesus Christ, God’s One and only Son, came to earth as a child, became a man, died on the cross and rose again on the third day to save us from our sins.

Mark 1:16-20

And He (Jesus) walked by the Sea of Galilee. He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then Jesus said to them, ‘Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men.’ They immediately left their nets and followed Him. When He had gone a little farther from there, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending their nets. And immediately He called to them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat, with the hired servants, and went after Him.

Like Abram, God called and they followed, not knowing where they were to go. He calls each of us to serve in His kingdom, “to make us fishers of men.” We all have a ministry. It is up to us and follow until God reveals what that is. I believe that God has called me at different times to do different things.  Sometimes I was faithful, sometimes I was not.  But each time that I followed His calling, I received a blessing.  In a few days, I leave for Haiti.  The first time was a bit scary and I didn’t know what to expect.  This will be my fourth time now, and I am so excited, I cannot wait!  I thank God for this opportunity to experience God working in my life and in the lives of these children.  What a blessing!  May you follow God’s calling for you, and see what great things God can do and how you can share those blessings with others! May the Lord bless you all.

God Can Work through You

change-948024_1280

No matter what you have done in your past, God can work through you.  He can change you and give you strength.  Nothing in your past is so terrible that He will not use you to His glory and through it, bless you and others.  The struggles in your past may be the thing he uses to help someone with the same struggles.  He shows His power through our weakness, his strength in our insecurity.  Throughout the Bible, God used the people that most would never believe possible.  Paul, the great minister of God, persecuted the Christians of his day.  Moses murdered someone and could not speak well.  Gideon was the least of his family of a low-class tribe.  Joseph was a slave and became the highest ranking officer in Egypt to be used by God.  These are just a few. Character of the Church

When I first read Hebrews 13 and the notes from a study I had (you can look up The Summit Church or J.D. Greear for his study of Hebrews; the bullet points below summarize part of this study), it seemed this was about worship.  It is.  But it is also about the character of the church.  Or, perhaps part of worship is the character of the church.  To start with, what is the church?  It is not a building and not where you “go to” to fulfill your duty as a Christian, though that is an important part of your spiritual life.  That is a time to fellowship with other believers and worship God, but our act of worship should be non-stop throughout our week and our life.  That is a study in itself, but not for this post.  What the church is, though is you and me.  It is Christ’s bride.  It is the body of believers.  It is those who follow Him. God Created

Our God is an awesome God…He is the Creator of the universe and everything in it.  So why do the schools teach that the universe and everything in it happened by chance?  Why are we taught that we evolved from other forms of life?  Does science disprove the existence of God?  Does science contradict the creation?  Some of these questions may never be answered.  There are some good books and documentaries about this where the authors lay down the evidence.  Check out The Case for a Creator and The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel or Evidence that Demands a Verdict by Josh McDowell for good discussions on these issues.  So, what does God’s Word say about how the world began and how man came into being?  Why should it matter?  To me, knowing who God is gives me all the more reason to worship and praise Him and helps me realize how big a God He is. The Character of God

How great our God is!  Who is He?  What is He like?  What makes Him God?  How can we know Him?  In my last post I began to describe God through John in the Revelation of Jesus Christ.  Also, in the previous posts before that I tried to describe the trinity of God, the one and only God, in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  Of course, I couldn’t even come close to fully describe who He is.  He is indescribable, beyond our imagination.  No one can compare.  I will try to give you a glimpse through His word, though this will be incomplete.  Search the scriptures and read for yourself.  It truly is amazing who God is.

Ps 111:1-10

Praise the Lord !

I will praise the Lord with my whole heart,

In the assembly of the upright and in the congregation.

The works of the Lord are great,

Studied by all who have pleasure in them.

His work is honorable and glorious,

And His righteousness endures forever.

He has made His wonderful works to be remembered;

The Lord is gracious and full of compassion.

He has given food to those who fear Him;

He will ever be mindful of His covenant.

He has declared to His people the power of His works,

In giving them the heritage of the nations.

The works of His hands are verity and justice;

All His precepts are sure.

They stand fast forever and ever,

And are done in truth and uprightness.

He has sent redemption to His people;

He has commanded His covenant forever:

Holy and awesome is His name.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;

A good understanding have all those who do His commandments.

His praise endures forever.

Romans 11:33-36

Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!

“For who has known the mind of the Lord?

Or who has become His counselor?”

‘Or who has first given to Him

And it shall be repaid to him?”

For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.

All that He has done, all that He is, we ought to praise Him with our whole heart, to love Him with everything we have.  We should trust in Him and His wisdom.  Those who trust in the Lord will gain wisdom and strength.  He will always be with you and guide you in all that you do.

Isaiah 40:28-31

Have you not known?

Have you not heard?

The everlasting God, the Lord,

The Creator of the ends of the earth,

Neither faints nor is weary.

His understanding is unsearchable.

He gives power to the weak,

And to those who have no might He increases strength.

Even the youths shall faint and be weary,

And the young men shall utterly fall,

But those who wait on the Lord

Shall renew their strength;

They shall mount up with wings like eagles,

They shall run and not be weary,

They shall walk and not faint.

Isaiah 41:10

Fear not, for I am with you;

Be not dismayed, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you,

Yes, I will help you,

I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

Isaiah 57:15-16

For thus says the High and Lofty One

Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:

“I dwell in the high and holy place,

With him who has a contrite and humble spirit,

To revive the spirit of the humble,

And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

1 John 4:7-19

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. We love Him because He first loved us.

We love God because He first loved us.  He loved us so much He sent His one and only Son to die for us, to pay for our sins that we may live…eternally, with Him, in heaven!
