Jesus is the Light, We are the light

As Christmas approaches, let us remember the true meaning of it. Although family and presents and lights and decorations and songs and laughter are great, let us step back and consider that God sent His Son to us to save us.  Let us remember this throughout the year and trust Him in all things.  Let us abide In the light of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Jesus in Psalm 22

I was going through a study in Hebrews and the teacher described the quote in Hebrews 2 from Psalm 22.  I thought it was interesting how the first half of the Psalm depicts Jesus thoughts on the cross; the second half were His thoughts and the results of the cross after His resurrection.  Our salvation is dependent on both His death and resurrection.  It is through His death our sins are washed away; it is through His resurrection that death and sin are conquered and those of us who trust in the Lord will be forgiven and will live in eternity with Him. Cost and Blessing of Following Jesus

At first I thought of titling this post, “Strength through Tribulation and Persecution.”  But it is more than that.  Every trial we go through, every time we are persecuted, every struggle, God is with us and we grow spiritually and become a better person and we have an opportunity to help others in similar situations.  He is always there whether we realize it or not.  As a believer, we need to realize we will go through trials.  There is a cost to following Jesus.  But it does not compare to the blessings and the reward we will receive by knowing Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.  As the last of the series on “I am Saved…Now What Do I Do?” I want to prepare my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, in particular those who are young believers of things they may face while giving words of encouragement that it is all worth it.  I also want to start this discussion by making it clear that what we do does not determine our salvation.  It is what Jesus Christ did on the cross.  Our sins are forgiven because of Him.  We just need to accept that gift of grace He has given us.  What we do is a result of that salvation.  When we are saved, there will be a change in our hearts, our lives and our actions.  The blessings are tremendous, but that does not mean things will be easy.  It just means it will be worth it. Living Water

Today’s scripture is about Jesus’ encounter with the woman at the well. Here, He declares that He is the Messiah.  His words and actions declare it.  He is the Living Water.  Salvation is through Him.  Life is through Him.  We need Him in our hearts. Continue reading “Living Water”

Students and Teachers of the Word

One role the church often seems to neglect is discipling its members.  When a person makes a decision to believe in Jesus Christ, we need to be there for them and guide them to grow and learn about their faith.  A new believer should also seek godly counsel with those who are more mature believers.  We all need to learn and to teach.  As a church family, we need to grow together with our brothers and sisters.
