Everyone knows Psalm 23. The Lord is our Shepherd. He is the Good Shepherd who guides us and protects us. He will go out of His way to bring the lost sheep back to safety. All of us were lost sheep. But Jesus paid for our sins; He died for us so that the lost could be found, so that the sinner can be forgiven, so that we can have eternal life in His kingdom.
Psalms 23:1-6
A Psalm of David.
The LORD [Yahweh] is my shepherd [Rohi]; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the LORD [Yahweh]Forever.
David, himself being a shepherd in his youth, understood what it meant to be a shepherd. As he mentioned to King Saul and to his brothers, he fought off lions and bears to protect the flock. A shepherd will give His life for his sheep. Sound familiar? That is exactly what Jesus did. He died on the cross so that we may live. As we follow Him, we have nothing to fear because God is with us and His Holy Spirit lives in us.
2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Jesus is the Good Shepherd who leads us to the path of righteousness. He restores our soul through His blood. He guides us as we do good works and share His gospel.
Hebrews 13:20-21
Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
Jesus Christ died for our sins. He is the Good Shepherd who gave His life for us so that we may live. Through His sacrifice we are declared righteous and will one day be in the presence of almighty God in eternity. What a great blessing! What a great God who created us in His image and loved us that much!

John 10:11-18
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep. I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.
“Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.”
Jesus came to this earth to be that good shepherd. That was the plan all along. Because of our sinful nature, because we are all sinners, Christ came to die for us, to pay for all of our sins, that whoever believes in Him will have eternal life. Jesus is our Lord He is our King.
Matthew 2:1-6
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.” When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. So they said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet: ‘BUT YOU, BETHLEHEM, IN THE LAND OF JUDAH, ARE NOT THE LEAST AMONG THE RULERS OF JUDAH; FOR OUT OF YOU SHALL COME A RULER WHO WILL SHEPHERD MY PEOPLE ISRAEL.’ “
Jesus became the sacrificial lamb so that our sins would be wiped clean. One day we will be in His presence at His throne. One day He will wipe away our tears. One day we will bow before Him and He will lead us to “living waters” as a shepherd leads his flock.

Revelation 7:13-17
Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, “Who are these arrayed in white robes, and where did they come from?” And I said to him, “Sir, you know.” So he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple. And He who sits on the throne will dwell among them. They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
One day we will be in heaven with Him. Not because of the good deeds we have done, but because of His great sacrifice.
