Peace Through Troubled Times

Anyone besides me having a hard time having peace in these troubled times?  I have been reading scriptures and other articles that we will have peace through Christ and I know it’s true.  But, I still struggle with the anxiety of it all.  Yes, I still do find peace inside, because I know God is there and he has a plan, as frustrating as it is not knowing what that plan is.  I know God loves me and He is by my side even when I don’t feel it.  I know that He is always there for me even through this chaos.  Even though it seems the world has turned upside down with the virus, the empty shelves at the grocery store, the economy crashing, social distancing and all the bad news on TV, we need to continue reading God’s word and remember His promises and to continue in prayer and to trust in Him.

Philippians 4:6-7

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

repentanceRomans 8:26-28

Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

No matter what our anxiety may be, we have no need for it.  God is looking out for us even through hardships.  And through it all, the Spirit in us prays for us and God hears our prayers.  As He hears us crying out to Him, He will give us peace.  There is so much more than what this world has to offer.  Hope does not disappoint.  And God’s love is stronger.

Romans 5:1-5

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

God has given us hope.  He has given us peace.  He gave us the Holy Spirit.  We have all of that because Jesus gave His life for us on the cross.  He wiped away our sin.  There is no greater love than that.  So what can we do during these troubled times?  How do we get through this?  Trust in God.  Lay your burdens on Christ.  Lift each other up (even when we are apart).  We are all in this together.  Help those in need; those who have it worse than we do.

Matthew 11:28-30

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

James 1:27

Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

Instead of hoarding and getting sucked in to the panic and fear from the media, let us think about all the blessings God has given us.  Let us share those blessings with others.  Let us be encouraging to others.  Let us show the love of Christ and help those in need.  Even in these times, it is still better to give than receive. And, always, always, turn to God.  He is our sustainer.  He is our Shepherd.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.

I lived in the far corner of Northeastern Washington with my beautiful wife, but now live in Wisconsin while I look for work. God has blessed me tremendously and so thankful for His grace and the people He has put in my life and His work in and around me.
