El Elyon, God Most High

Our God is described in many ways. He is the God most High. There are no other Gods besides Him. He is above all things and greater than anything we can imagine. He is Supreme and Ruler over all. I have found 2 different Hebrew words that mean God Most High. El Elyon, or Elyown shows the supremacy of God while El Illay shows the more personal, intimate side of the Most High God that connects God to His people, who is to be worshipped. He is big and powerful, yet He loves us and wants a relationship with us.

Everlasting God, El Olam

What do we know about our God? He is eternal. He is the Everlasting God. Hebrew scripture calls Him El Olam, or a form of this. He is the Creator of the universe and everything in it He has existed since the beginning of time and will always exist. He is “the One who is, and who was, and who is to come.” He was not created by man, but created man and woman. He is the all-powerful, all knowing, self-existent God. He is indescribable and beyond our imagination No one is like our God.

God’s Name: El Shaddai, God Almighty

God Almighty. The mighty name of God. He is the Sovereign Lord. The ruler of the universe. There is no other god but Him. He is El Shaddai. In Greek the word is Theos Pantokrator, a word used for God the Father and Jesus Christ. He is Lord of Lords and King of Kings. The name that is above all names.

Adonai Lord

The Lord God, Adonai, is our Lord, our Sovereign King. God is the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings. Adonai is used throughout the Old Testament, as people relate to God, and declare His goodness. It is the name use as people pray to God in earnest need and seek help from our almighty God.

Names of God: Elohim

Did you know the Bible uses several names for God? In the Hebrew text, God is called different names that are all translated “God” or “LORD.” I do not know Hebrew, but we will learn the different names of God and their meanings together. In the Hebrew culture, names were more than just a way to identify someone. Names described their character, their traits, who they are. So, as we study the names of God, we will learn who God is, and what His character is.
